Tough Wire for Tough Jobs – No Gas Required
Hobart Fabshield XLNT-6 is a self-shielded flux-cored welding wire designed for demanding structural and heavy fabrication work. Because it does not require shielding gas, you can weld outdoors without worrying about wind blowing your gas away. This makes it an excellent choice for bridge construction, structural steel erection, shipbuilding, and heavy equipment repair, where portability and weather resistance are essential.
This wire produces a slow-freezing slag that is easy to remove, which helps you work faster and reduces the risk of slag entrapment in your welds. It also delivers high impact strength at low temperatures, so your welds stay strong and resist cracking even in cold weather or severe service conditions.
Built for Productivity and Performance
The Fabshield XLNT-6 E70T-6 is well-suited for welding non-alloyed and fine-grain steels. It provides excellent weld appearance and mechanical properties, making it a trusted choice for critical applications where reliability matters. The wire comes on a rugged 20-pound fiber spool that resists cracking and does not require a special spindle adapter, so it fits most standard welding wire feeders.
The spool is packaged in VCI (Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor) material, which helps extend shelf life and prevents corrosion, ensuring the wire is in good condition when you are ready to use it. This wire is available in 5/64-inch and 3/32-inch diameters to suit different welding applications and equipment.
How to Use This Wire
Fabshield XLNT-6 is designed for flat and horizontal welding positions. Set your welding machine for DC electrode negative (straight polarity) as recommended for self-shielded flux-cored wires. Adjust your voltage and wire feed speed according to the material thickness and joint configuration. Because no shielding gas is required, you can weld outdoors without needing wind screens or gas cylinders, making it ideal for field work. The slow-freezing slag allows for good wetting and easy cleanup between passes.
Please Note
This wire is intended for flat and horizontal welding positions. It is not recommended for vertical-up or overhead welding. Always follow the manufacturer’s recommended parameters for the best results.
