Lightweight, Powerful, and Built for Precision
The Miller Maxstar 161 STL is a 160-amp DC inverter welder that gives you the flexibility to weld both TIG and Stick in a portable, lightweight package. Weighing just 13 pounds, this machine is ideal for technicians, fabricators, and maintenance professionals who need to move quickly between job sites or work in tight spaces like commercial kitchens, dairy plants, or shipboard installations.
What makes this welder stand out is its ability to run on standard household 120-volt outlets or more powerful 240-volt circuits without any manual linking. Miller’s Auto-Line technology automatically adjusts to the available input power, so you can focus on your work instead of worrying about reconfiguring the machine. It also delivers reliable performance even on unstable or dirty power sources, thanks to its power factor correction feature.
TIG Welding Made Simple
For TIG welding, the Maxstar 161 STL uses Lift-Arc starting, which eliminates the need for high-frequency interference. You simply touch the tungsten to the workpiece and lift it to initiate a smooth, clean arc. This makes it especially useful in environments where high frequency could disrupt sensitive electronic equipment, such as in hospital kitchens or aircraft maintenance areas.
The included RCCS-6M fingertip remote control gives you precise amperage adjustment right at your hand, which is invaluable when working on thin gauge materials or performing delicate welds that require fine control. Plus, the built-in gas solenoid means you don’t need a bulky torch with a manual gas valve—just pull the trigger and the gas flows automatically.
Stick Welding Performance You Can Rely On
When you switch to stick welding, the Maxstar 161 STL delivers exceptional arc performance, even with tough-to-run electrodes like E6010. Features like Hot Start adaptive control ensure positive arc strikes without sticking, and the Stick-Stuck detection automatically shuts off output if the electrode freezes to the workpiece, making it safer and easier to remove. The low open-circuit voltage design also adds an extra layer of safety when the machine is idle.
How to Use Your New Welder
Getting started is straightforward. First, plug the machine into either a standard 120V outlet for lighter work or a 240V outlet for higher output. The Auto-Line system takes care of the rest. For TIG welding, attach the included Weldcraft A-150 torch, set your gas flow on the regulator, and use the Lift-Arc method to start your weld. For stick welding, connect the electrode holder, select your amperage on the digital meter, and strike your arc. The digital display gives you precise readouts, making setup quick and repeatable.
What’s Included in the Package
This comprehensive package comes ready to weld right out of the box. You get the complete 12.5-foot Weldcraft A-150 TIG torch, a 13-foot stick electrode holder with cable, a 10-foot work clamp with cable, and a flow gauge regulator with hose. The RCCS-6M remote control is included for fingertip amperage adjustments. You’ll also receive the AK2C accessory kit, which contains nozzles, collets, collet bodies, back caps, and 2% ceriated tungsten electrodes in three sizes. The unit ships with both 120V and 240V power cords, a protective X-CASE for transport, and a shoulder strap for easy carrying.
